ONE HOUR MORNING CLASSES

9:30AM—10:30AM

                                                                 

101      5-STRING BLUEGRASS BANJO Level 1—Al Rice                                          LIMIT 8

            Basic techniques for playing simple chords, melody, and using tablature will be covered.        

            A playable 5 string banjo, 1 plastic thumb pick and 2 metal finger picks are required. 

            Bring a music stand.  Music will be provided.

 

102      GUITAR (Beginners)—James Blitchington                                              LIMIT 8

            Learn basic techniques for playing the guitar.  Understanding keys, chords, measures, and

            learning how to play simple songs.  Must have an acoustic guitar in playable condition, and

            one pick (either flat pick or thumb pick).  Bring a music stand.  Music will be provided.

 

103      NOVICE DULCIMER—Keith Oler                                                             LIMIT 10

            You must have had completed beginner class.  Bring your dulcimer; we will learn how to

            Play, by ear learn simple tunes and jam chords. 

 

104      LINE DANCING (Beginners)—Bill Jones                                                      LIMIT 20

            Basic steps and easy line dances will be taught. No prior experience.  Come and have fun and

            exercise while dancing with us.

105      WILLS, ESTATES, ADVANCED DIRECTIVES—Cary D. Cox                     LIMIT 20

            The class will cover Powers of Attorneys, Living Wills, Simple Estate Planning, Gifting,

            Wills and the Probate Process.

            Students will continue with sight reading and learn to write a simple song.  Must have

            completed a beginning chord class and one class of continuing guitar Bring a music stand.

 

108      DULCIMER (Beginners)—Nell Boone                                                          LIMIT 10

            We will learn how to tune, fret, strum and play simple tune with chords.  Music will be provided.

 

109      LINE DANCING (Intermediate)—Bill Jones                                              LIMIT 20

            This class is for those who have had basic instruction in Line Dancing previously.  We will

            learn more intricate steps, while having fun.

 

110      BASIC COMPUTER—Ed Goss                                                                   LIMIT 8

            Learn how to create folders/sub folders/ move files, delete, resize your screen & change wallpaper.

            Bring: notebook and pen.  You may bring your laptop.  Windows XP only Please!!!.

201      CHAIR CANING—Eva & Bill Breedlove                                                        LIMIT 18

Restore that antique chair!  Learn to weave cane seats for chairs and stools.  Individual              

instruction.  All work done in class.  Stool frames available for purchase before the first class.   

 

202      CALLIGRAPHY ASSORTMENT—Pennye Loftin                                              LIMIT 8

            Two weeks study of the Carolingian hand, two weeks study of the Neuland hand, one week

            of Arts and Crafts hand and decoration, some tool making, and other assorted skills of

            interest.  For returning broad pen students only. $5  (add to registration fee).           

 

203      BASKET WEAVING (Beginners)—Lamar Franklin                                    LIMIT 8

For the person who has never made a basket.  We will make a napkin basket, market basket,  

and a third basket—time permitting. You will be contacted with a supply list before class. 

Cost $18 (add to registration fee)       

 

204      MORE RUBBERSTAMPING—Sandi Cochran                                                LIMIT 6

Create cards and small gift wrappings with rubberstamps.  Have fun and learn great techniques. 

            All supplies are included in the fee.  Cost $15 (add to registration fee)        

 

205      CONVERSATIONAL GERMAN—Ursula Whitelock                                                     LIMIT 10

            Beginning German – pronunciations – customs – money – food – fun.  Helpful for travelers.         

            Students need to get the book “German In 10 Minutes A Day” at Book Nook in Blairsville.

 

206      AUTOHARP (Beginners)—Sally Roberson                                                           LIMIT 6

            Basic knowledge of music explained, basic autoharp techniques taught; simple songs learned.

            Music will be provided.

 

207      SEWING “BEE”—Sarah Partain                                                                           LIMIT 10

            Bring any kind of “lap” sewing and enjoy a good time.

           

208      OIL PAINTING (Beginners)—Susan Phillips                                                  LIMIT 10

            Students will complete an oil painting in 8 weeks.  All supplies will be provided.  Cost $10

209      PAINTING FOR FUN—Carroll Quinn & Dianne Kwiatkowski                         LIMIT 12

            Bring your paints and brushes and join other painters with varying levels of experience to        

            complete a project of your choice or to work on increasing your skills with acrylic techniques.

301      T’AI-CHI—Dr. Dennis Tidwell                                                                                  LIMIT 30

Slow, relaxing movements for peace of mind and strength and balance of body.

Cost $5 (add to the registration fee).

           

302      FABRIC LOCKER HOOKING—Gladys Stephens                                                LIMIT 10

            Using a locker hook, canvas and fabric strips, we will first make a hot pad to learn the

            technique, then we will make a 20”x27” rug out of the fabric of your choice. Students will

            be contacted with a supply list.   Supply fee for new students $10 (add to registration fee) 

            Returning students bring your own supplies.

 

303      MOUNTAIN OASIS FOLK BAND—Rosy DeVane & Jennifer Cordier                  LIMIT 24

            MOFB is for students who feel comfortable playing melody and/or rhythm on their instrument. 

            Students of folk instruments have the opportunity to play together as a group focusing on listening

            skills, basic rhythm and taking instrumental leads.  Prerequisite:  must be able to sight read basic

            chorded and tabbed music.  Bring a music stand.

305      JAM GROUP—Al & Pat Rice                                                                                         LIMIT 25

            This class is for learning “practicing jam etiquette”, and the sharing of tunes.  All instruments

            are welcome.  Students need to know their basics and feel comfortable playing chords and scales

            in common jam keys.  Bring your tuned instruments and stands.

 

306      AUTOHARP (Continuing)—Jennifer Cordier                                           LIMIT 12

            More autoharp with an emphasis on melody playing, rhythm techniques and ensemble playing.

 

307      PLAYING THE DULCIMER FOR FUN—Barry Malac                                LIMIT 10

            This class is for players who are able to play proficiently.  You are required to have taken

            at least three OASIS Dulcimer courses.  Students need to purchase “Tunes and Ballads for the

            Mountain Dulcimer” by Helen Johnson  Cost: $15 (add to registration fee)  

 

308      FRENCH (Beginner/Intermediate)—Renee Ninov                                              LIMIT 10

            Ongoing French class—everyone is welcome. Students need to get the book “French In

            10 Minutes A Day” at Book Nook in Blairsville.

           

309      YOGA—Pat Tomczyk                                                                                          LIMIT 20

            Yoga – gentle yoga.  Improve flexibility, strength, balance and relaxation.  Please bring a blanket

            or mat.  Chairs are available for those who want the benefits of yoga without a mat work-out.
